This was my first trip to Canyonlands, and I was blown away by how vast and open it was. I spent this day hiking all over the trails. I arrived at Murphy Overlook in the late afternoon, and as I was wandering around I realized there was no one around me for miles. It was absolutely exhilarating! I took several shots of Candlestick Tower, but nothing really captured what I was feeling-the freedom, the exhilaration of being alone in that beauty, so much that you want to become a part of it. I set the timer and sat on the rock outcropping (not nearly as dangerous as it looks-there was a ledge just 10 feet below me). Only later when I was looking at the photos from the day did I realize my shirt had a quote from Edward Abbey on the back, and it's readable in the shot. It states in part "May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view". I think I captured exactly what he meant by that.
