Description

the Cape Forchu lighthouse, or Yarmouth Light is located in Southwestern Nova Scotia. Originally named by Samuel de Champlain on his exploration of the area in 1604, the lighthouse is one of Canada's most photographed and is the beacon of protection for ships heading to harbor in Yarmouth, once the second largest port of registry in Canada. The original lighthouse was completed in 1839 but was replaced in the early 1900s by the current building. The beacon can be seen by mariners at sea 40 miles away.
