Magnetic Island is a 20 minute ferry ride from Townsville city. The most famous place to spot them is along the WWII Forts Walk, along the Horseshoe Bay Road. This is in the Magnetic Island National Park, which covers about 70% of the island. Happy Hiking!
Magnetic Island is famous for having a large population of wild koalas, easily spotted wherever you find their favourite eucalyptus trees. They are quite accommodating photographic subjects, with little fear of humans and a habit of doing not much at all but sit happily, munching on leaves in trees. This one was looking particularly jolly.
