The search for this church was a long one..first off if you think you are going to get to place in this country, in one hour, forget it...not because of traffic, not because of weather..but because every where you look there is just pure untouched beauty and landscapes around you that you will end up clicking a 100 photos before you get any where..thats what happened to me. This is a Lutheran church built originally in the 12th century.I repeat,12th century, one of the oldest churches in Iceland..It is also referred to as miracle church as locals believe that it is a church with miracle powers.Apparently this church was built by a few sailors who prayed to god for safe landing while they were at sea caught in a storm. Their prayers were heard and an angel guided them to land safely and to fulfill their promise they built this church. Around this area, there were many farmlands, back in the days and land was fertile and the sea was good for fishing.Over the years due to wind and water erosion these farms died and many of these are still to be seen around the area abandoned.I ran into many icelandic horses on the way to this church.most of them were skinny and to bones. There is no regular service at this church today but they are fairly more open in summer than in winter. Definitely a church that has left a mark in my mind among the many i have shot through this world..
