There are very few inland roads along the Big Sur region of CA State Hwy 1. But there is one right in the middle of it all: Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd. (Kirk Creek campground is very close to this easy-to-miss junction). Take this very narrow, winding strip of pavement 7 miles to the top and turn right onto South Coast Ridge Rd (dirt road). Prewitt Ridge is less than 5 miles away.
Prewitt Ridge is one of my favorite camp sites (3306 elevation) in Los Padres National Forest, over the Big Sur region. It features about 180 degrees of unparalleled Pacific views. (Also a popular location for hang gliders who jump off the plateau and glide along the coastal breezes.)
