Wave Action
About 2 hours northeast of Duluth along state highway 61.
This photo required patience for the right moment to capture the setting sun, illuminated waves crashing against the rocky basalt shoreline, and the mallards flying across the rocky point in the background. Short exposure time and a small aperture was required to freeze action and obtain sufficient depth in this shot. Using a good quality full-frame sensor enabled me to capture sufficient dynamic range and reveal shadow detail despite the suns glare.
Excellent photo opportunities exist along Minnesota's north shore, and especially around Grand Marais, a popular destination for photographers and artists.
