Drive north out of Fairbanks 500 miles to Prudhoe Bay. Gravel road, very remote, used by heavy trucks to haul freight to the oilfields of Alaska. Gas at the Yukon River, Coldfoot and in Deadhorse Alaska. Bring extra tires, food and warm clothing. Weather can change at a moments notice and it can snow during summer months. Access to the Arctic Ocean is only via tour bus when you reach Deadhorse. Wolves, grizzly bears, musk oxen, arctic and red fox, and caribou can be seen on the way up to Prudhoe Bay.
This red fox was seen near Prudhoe Bay Alaska. She walked along the tundra and close to the photographer. Love her thick red coat, but it is the thick red coat that will cause her demise. On her front leg, (on the lower right) is a trap that she had stepped on. The trap was not anchored properly and she now walks dragging the trap on her front leg. It breaks the photographer's heart to know she will at least lose her leg for the best outcome, or more than likely, lose her life.
