Drive north out of Fairbanks 500 miles to Prudhoe Bay. Gravel road, very remote, used by heavy trucks to haul freight to the oilfields of Alaska. Gas at the Yukon River, Coldfoot and in Deadhorse Alaska. Bring extra tires, food and warm clothing. Weather can change at a moments notice and it can snow during summer months. Access to the Arctic Ocean is only via tour bus when you reach Deadhorse. Wolves, grizzly bears, musk oxen, arctic and red fox, and caribou can be seen on the way up to Prudhoe Bay.
Was watching a herd of Musk Ox on the tundra of Prudhoe Bay when a group of five started to run in the snow. It was snowing and windy, when they took off, it was a surreal sight, ancient beasts running through snow, it was like a dream.
