Description

The sheer cliffs found along the Nā Pali Coast have isolated the northwestern coast of Kaua‛i from development and cell phone reception, but not people. Many walk 22 miles roundtrip through several treacherous switchbacks, or paddle 16 miles through some of the roughest ocean conditions in the State, to experience the mana (divine power) of this place. Standing beside an ancient heiau (Hawaiian place of worship) immersed in nature, it is easy to feel insignificant against the towering cliffs and expansive coastline, and yet it is hard to forget that even the wildest, most remote places on Earth have been touched, transformed, and domesticated by man.
