Summers around Monterey Bay mean foggy, overcast mornings and lots of humpback whales. During the past couple of weeks, schools of anchovies have been feeding near the surface. That means their predators, humpback whales, are feeding at the surface as well. This surface lunge-feeding is one of the most exciting things that we see whales do. Seeing these huge leviathans explode through bait balls of fish never gets old.
