Take Badwater Basin Road off of Hywy 180 south of Furnace Creek Ranch
Badwater Basin, located in Death Valley National Park in California, is the lowest place in the USA, being 283 feet below sea level. However it is surrounded by mountains up to over 11,000 feet high .
To get this image, I hiked app. 1 1/2 miles out onto the salt flats before sunset. Dark clouds were hugging the mountains but clear skies to the east and overexposing almost 2 stops helped bring out the beautiful details in the white flats.
Shot with a Canon 5DSR and the Canon EOS 11-24 f4L lens. RRS 34 L tripod and RRS ballhead. Aperture f11, Shutter 1/125 second, iso 100. Post processed in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop CC.
