From Louisville Kentucky travel south on Highway 65 for about 45 minutes the turn left on Highway 245 and travel a few miles . Bernheim will be on the right.
Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in Clermont Kentucky and its 16,137 acres celebrates 90 years this year . Purchased by German immigrant Isaac W. Bernheim in 1929, the land was dedicated as a gift to the people of his new homeland. The American Public Gardens Association (APGA) in 20 18 named Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest the recipient of its Operational Sustainability Award. Bernheim is only the third organization to ever receive the honor from the leading professional organization in the field of public horticulture.
It has a small lake , trails , a restaurant and gift shop to name a few. It also serves as an outreach to school children and buses are seen there often as children learn to enjoy nature along with an interpretive guide.
When my wife and I retired from hectic lives in another state finding Bernheim was a true miracle and restored our lives in so many ways. John Muir said it best " Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul." Winter , spring , summer or fall Bernheim is a beautiful place to find yourself.
