Colorado CR 69
This image was taken in Colorado's Wet Mountain Valley and the mountain range is the Sierra Blanca, with four 14,000+ ft peaks one of the most dramatic mountain massifs in North America. The tallest peak - 14,351 feet high Blanca Peak, the fifth highest summit in the US - is visible in the center of the image. I really like the stark contrast between the gentle rolling terrain of the enormous valley in the foreground, which was bathed in the almost golden light of the sunrise and took on a smooth, velvety texture. But right behind the soft foreground we enter a completely different world: Towering walls of dark-grey granite reaching all the way into the clouds. But - in my opinion - what makes this photo special is the snowy road that's snaking through the lower 1/3rd of the image, leading the eye into the scene. And suddenly the tiny, old log cabin becomes the focal point in all of the grandeur.
