Lake Martin in south Louisiana provides the photographer with endless opportunities to photograph flora and fauna. The area receives much of its credit for close encounters with alligators and the bird rookery located on the south side of the lake, but the cypress/tupelo forests hold their own in terms of beauty. When the morning light is right, there is no place more iconic to Louisiana than the swamps at Lake Martin. This photograph was taken during sunrise. Cold mornings in Louisiana tend to be associated with mist and fog on the lakes and bayous. This day was no exception, as the morning light combined with the low fog credited amazing colors and layers in the swamp.
