Description
A massive avalanche that recently occurred on Chair Peak. The crown line for the slab avalanche that broke was ~10'-15' deep in places. This avalanche was caused by a cornice dropping off the ridge during a warming period. Luckly, the avalanche occurred during the night or early morning, because the debris ran a couple thousand feet downhill to Source Lake which is a very popular hiking and skiing zone in winter. Pretty cool to see such a large avalanche in my backyard. The slide snapped a bunch of trees like they were toothpicks and deposited them all over the slopes. A very unique and special thing to witness, but a great reminder how powerful and destructive nature can be.
