In 2019 these painted lady butterflies showed up in the Owens Valley by the hundreds of thousands. The butterflies were migrating north from Mexico and they were everywhere, from the fields to the river banks and even lower elevations in the mountains. These butterflies showed up in my backyard to take a drink of nectar from my blossoming peach tree. I saw thousands of butterflies on their way north, but this was the only butterfly I hoped that made it to its promised land. It was a beautiful sight to see and experience. I am patiently waiting for these ladies to return in mass.
