I originally captured this image in color but I created a black and white monochrome image to accent the stark contrast between the sky, moon and watch tower of the fort walls. The fort was originally built by the Spanish starting in 1672 to protect the town of St. Augustine in Florida and is now a US National Monument. The fort walls are made from "Coquina", a sedimentary rock formed from fragments of the shells of mollusks. This provides a very rich texture best exemplified in shades of grey providing a natural monochromatic mosaic.
