Description
Russian goshawk at Wild Fest today, so amazing how the light and lens viewed the inner eye vessels. The blood vessels are not on the cornea but actually within the nictitating membrane (third eyelid). Birds use this thin membrane for protection when diving and flying. It can be retracted and moves back and forth over the cornea, that is why it is not always present.
