The Lamar River

From Livingston, Take US 89 to the Yellowstone entry gate. A short distance after you leave the entry gate you turn right on to a new road that runs 5 1/2 miles to Mammoth Village. This replaces the old road that was washed out in June. The new road is paved, has guard rails and runs alongside a mountain and will never be affected by any washout. Yellowstone made a very good decision on putting in this new road.

This shot gives an idea of the heavy snow fall Yellowstone has gotten this year. Many of the wildlife have been driven to lower elevations outside of the park to where they can find something to eat. We found many Bison and Antelope (as people native to Wyoming call them) in the valley below Gardiner. Inside the park, most of the area is trackless . . . just smooth snow. We found Bison in the park, but only a small percentage of what you normally see.
