Congratulations to Henrik Spranz for winning the recent Ice And Snow Scenes Assignment with the image, “Forest’s Soul #3.”

"For my 'forest's soul' series of experimental photos trying to look beyond the obvious in my favorite forests, I was in desperate need of some winter season shots as well," explains Spranz. "I had some ideas in my mind and just waited for some heavy snowfall, which doesn't happen very frequently in the lower parts of Austria like in the past. My idea was to use an external flash to increase the visibility of the falling snow and to use different in camera techniques like panning or multiple exposures to increase the density of textures, to abstract the landscape to get something different than the pure reproduction of the scene. On this day, with its dense snowfall, I've managed to get some results I was up for and this is one of my favorites. In this one, I've just used in camera multiple exposures and the external flash followed only by basic post processing like tonal correction, contrast and white balancing."

Equipment: Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS, Canon Speedlite 580 EX.

Exposure 1: 1/80s, ƒ/4, 89mm, ISO 250

Exposure 2+3: 0.5s, ƒ/22, 89mm, ISO 250
