Congratulations to Max Foster for winning the recent Landscapes Abloom assignment with his image, Helens Twilight.”

"'Helens Twilight' was taken on a clear July evening near the Johnston Ridge Observatory in Washington State," says Foster. "During the summer months, several species of wildflowers bloom in this area. You can see Indian paintbrush, lupine and many more. For this shot, I wanted to contrast the barren Mt. St. Helens with the new growth of the valley and ridge. Just after sunset, the mountain caught the last bit of alpenglow before going dark, which added a perfect amount of contrast to the scene.

"For the image, I set up my camera and tripod extremely close to the foreground flowers and shot several frames with focus points near to far. I stacked these shots in Photoshop to create the final image."

Nikon D600, Nikon 16-35mm f4 @ 16mm, Really Right Stuff Tripod and Ballhead. Eight exposures used for focus stacking, each at 1/30 sec., ƒ/9, ISO 2500.
