After arriving in Yosemite Valley drive to the Sentinel Bridge parking area and walk to the left of the meadow and follow the boardwalk until you have a nice view of the falls.
In May of 2010 after several stormy days I took a chance and drove to Yosemite in hopes of photographing a rare lunar rainbow which sometimes appears in the mist of Yosemite Falls. I was inspired by an image my father Galen Rowell photographed of moonlight on Yosemite Falls in 1986. I arrived well after midnight when the full Moon was rising above the valley and I was fortunate to capture a vivid multicolored Moonbow which was complemented by bright stars over both upper and lower Yosemite Falls.
A full moon illuminates Yosemite Falls, creating a rare nighttime lunar rainbow or moonbow complemented by bright stars above the granite walls of Yosemite Valley. Yosemite Falls is the highest measured waterfall in North America it is 2,425 feet (739 m) from the top of the upper falls to the base of the lower falls
