From San Francisco, take Highway 101 north over the Golden Gate Bridge. Immediately after crossing the bridge, exit to Conzelman Road and take that west to the Pacific Ocean. Rodeo Beach is located near the Marin Headlands Visitor Center
My father photographer Galen Rowell’s image of Rodeo Beach inspired me to photograph the beach rocks at the Marin Headlands. I had recently returned from a photography trip to the Grand Canyon in Arizona and had been disappointed with my sunset images, so I decided to take some photos in the Marin Headlands while visiting the San Francisco Bay Area. I made three trips to Rodeo Beach that week and on the 3rd evening I was rewarded with beautiful sunset light on wet rocks in the foreground complemented by blurred waves hitting the shore below 3 large silhouetted sea stacks.
A beautiful sunset at Rodeo Beach lights up wet rocks on the shore below large sea stacks, while a slow shutter speed blurs the incoming waves giving the water a misty appearance.
