With the hopes of getting the iconic image of the sun rising under mesa arch, I set out to the location and realized there was no chance for the sun to emerge from the clouds. A bit disappointed I walked around the arch a few times trying to figure out the best way to shoot the arch. It was extremely windy all week and the distant la sal mountains were not to be seen and the canyons below seemed to vanish into the horizon. I took multiple frames from under the arch and realized I wanted the entire arch in the scene. I took a few steps back, but was unhappy with how flat the scene looked and how distant the canyons looked. I moved closer and began to shoot a series of 13 vertical images to later stitch together. I then converted the image to black and white as there was really no intense color.
