Booker T. Washington National Monument Located in Franklin County Virginia Booker was born into slavery on a small plantation and was freed at the end of the Civil War. He overcame great obstacles and hardships to gain an education. He became an educator, leader, and adviser to presidents. We live near the monument and enjoy the opportunities it provides including historical programs, tours through the historic area and woodland walking trails.
