I found this grouping of barrel cactus that had two perfect photo opportunities in each direction. This one, facing into the sun as it began to set behind the mountains, and another, facing the exact opposite direction with a bright red mountain peak. I chose to shoot into the sun for the challenge and to get a sunstar in the image. Also the other direction casted my own shadow over the cacti. Even with such a contrast of light, the cacti began to glow and show off their colorful red needles. I liked that the light wasn't so harsh even with shooting into the sun, but the clouds and mountain helped soften up the colors just a little bit to keep enough detail.
