Can't miss it-nothing else around. Helps to scout the evening before to find the best spot in the dark.
I was taking my sunrise photos behind me toward the east with a professional photographer and his 2 assistants( and all their fancy gear) who had "my" spot that I had picked out the night before-oh well what can you do. So I then thought let me get some of this gorgeous glow on the other side. I dashed to my right around a bunch of tufas ( what these calcium rock formations are called) and guess what, the photo pro had went to his left and beat me again to the spot again.
Sun had already risen behind me and I had taken the classic sunrise photo I then made a mad dash around the rocks to capture the last few seconds of a beautiful red glow on the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range that just had a light snow earlier that week.
