Until today, the sun always manages to create such deep shadows that most of the tree was hidden outside the dynamic range of my cameras over the years. It was only when i visited the grand Live Oak in the pouring rain that Mother Nature's natural softbox revealed the tonality and detail of this beautiful specimen.
The oldest tree east of the Mississippi has seen a lot in her 1600 years, from battles of the Revolutionary War, to battles of the Civil War, right in the field before her. She's also bee witness to me, countless times, trying to capture the essence of this grand tree. Today, I got the shot I was after.
