Go south of Sedona, Arizona, to the state park. Drive past the entry up the ridge road. At the peak, you'll see this vista.
I shot this in winter in late afternoon. The sun was behind me to the right. The trees in the foreground looked like bleached skeletons. The butte in the center looked like it was protecting everything, hence the title. And, yes, I "sweetened" the shot in Adobe Photoshop CS5 with adjustment layers (B&W and Levels); I cloned out some homes, wires, and poles that cluttered the mid-ground; I did do something that might disqualify the shot--I put in the cloudy sky to replace the boring empty one.
