Description

St. Andrews Bay on South Georgia Island is the breeding site of a huge colony of king penguins. This image was taken on a perfect day at St. Andres. It was early in the season so snow still covered the landscape; there was no wind, there were thousands upon thousands of king penguins, and there was just enough cloud cover to diffuse the light and paint some shadows on the surrounding mountains. .
