Take Hwy 395 to Lone Pine.
Turn west (at the stop light) onto Whitney Portal Road, drive 2.5 miles to Movie Road, turn right.
After 1.5 miles you will come to a "Y" in the road.
Go right and pull into the dirt parking area immediately on your left.
You will see the trail sign on the left side of this parking area; this is where you begin your arch walk.
This area is a photographer's paradise. Not far up the road are the Bristle Cone Forest and Mono Lake. Horses, burros, dogs and other pets are welcome.
The Alabama Hills are a range very cool rock formations at the base of Mt. Whitney, (the highest mountain in the contiguous US) and literally, barely more than few blocks west of Main Street, Lone Pine, off Highway 395. The large and unique rocks have been the backdrop from hundreds of movies, from the Lone Ranger, Gunga Din, Rawhide, to Gladiator, Iron Man and Star Trek Generations.
