Enchanted Coast

Equipment Info

Myself and two other Bay Area photographers took a road trip to shoot the amazing wildflowers in the Columbia Gorge. On our way home we decided to hit the Oregon coast. It was my first time on this coast with a camera, and it was love at first sight. I'm looking forward to many more trips up to this amazing coastline. This shot was taken at Samuel H. Boardman State Park. It was a little frightening, to say the least, hanging on the edge of a cliff to get this shot.

This image is a 3 shot panorama in the vertical position with a 15mm lens. I could have captured the entire seasstack in one shot, but I photographed way beyond what I needed in order to crop out the cliff below my feet, and the cliff to my right.

The inspiration for this image comes from many other beautiful photos I have seen over the years. Samuel H Boardman is one of those places every landscape photographer needs to experience and shoot.

My 95mm thread-on ND filter shattered a few days prior, so in order to get a long exposure I lowered the ISO to 50, and closed down the aperture to F/20; this allowed me a 1 second exposure, and get some water motion.

Gear: Nikon D800, Carl Zeiss 15mm F/2.8 lens, Gitzo Tripod, and RRS ball head.
