Enter by the north entrance in Yellowstone National Park and head east on the northernmost road. There are plenty of signs and only one road. An online map can be secured from the National Park Service.
This drive through the Lamar Valley in northern Yellowstone offers plenty reason to rise early and stay out late. The wide, expansive valley is home to bison, elk, coyote, grizzly and wolves. As a photographer and artist, my eye is attracted to leading lines in composition....in this case, the ribbon of highway through the expansive valley was more than reason enough to pull over. Lamar Valley is often referred to as the Serengeti of the United States. I felt the final image captured the strong sense of space and freedom we identify with in our American landscape.
