The Burr Trail begins in Boulder Utah which is in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. It remains paved until it meets the boundary of Capital Reef National Park at which point it becomes a good direct road.
This spectacular view of the Waterpocket Fold and Strike Valley and the snow covered Henry Mountains in the background was taken from the top of the Burr Trail road just after it winds its way through Long Canyon and before it descends by steep switchbacks down to Strike Valley. We had already driven down the switchbacks with the intention of driving the Burr Trail until it joined up with the Notom Bullfrog Road in Strike Valley. The dark clouds in the distance had already dropped enough rain water on that Road so as to make it impassable. We returned up the switchbacks and stopped right at the edge of the Valley where this image was made.
