Half Dome At Twilgiht

There are but a few things that I truly cherish in life. Peace & Calm are on the short list.

I didn’t know what was going to happen that evening. I had decided to set up two cameras, this one and the huge 8x10 camera. And in the midst of running back and forth between the two cameras, which were not so close together, not wanting to ‘miss the moment’ I was forced to pause by the sheer beauty that was unfolding right in front of my eyes.

The pause, if only for a simple few moments, filled me with a sense of peace and calm I am not likely to soon forget. It reminded me that we need to slow down and enjoy the simple truthful moments in life that come all too infrequent these days, because it is in those moments that we find real peace, real calm, life as it was meant.

This photograph is a really nice work of art, but I wonder how realistic it is. The light on Half Dome and clouds is the key light in the scene, and it’s used very effectively. However, the foreground has been lightened so much as to look unrealistic. Observing the scene in person, the foreground would certainly be much darker. Lightening it a bit to bring out detail would be appropriate, but in my view this rendering overdoes it.
