Take a boat or plane from Seattle to San Juan Island.
There are many rabbit on the islands and surprisingly, the fox and rabbit often use the same burrows. On a few occasions I saw fox leave their burrow, to be followed some time later by a rabbit.
Two red fox vixen had joined forces to provide for their four kits. In the several days that I observed and photographed them, the red colored vixen was the most dominant, the black morph normally acting submissive in her presence. However, on this occasion, the black morph was bringing home a rabbit for the kits when the Red, which has on other occasions taken it from her, attempted to do so again. This time the black morph toof offense and successfully stood up the the red. No harm was done but the black morph was able to take the rabbit to the kits.
