Mother Penguin with Egg

Description

On a photo trip to Antarctica, photographer Lynda Fox spent time observing the behavior of a colony of Gentoo penguins in the Antarctic Peninsula. The Gentoo penguins are the third largest penguin species estimated at over 600,000 and are distinguished by a white band of feathers above the eye. They are monogamous and parents switch incubation duties on a daily basis. “I was thrilled”, says Lynda Fox, “to find this mother penguin sitting on a large spotted egg while surrounded by a colony of friends.”
