From the Belle Haven Sailing Marina, paddle (by kayak) south about 1 mile and then turn west into the "gut" where the local osprey and bald eagles like to fish and hunt.
Photo was shot with a 100-400 mm lens with 1.4 extender, handheld from a kayak.
A female adult osprey teaches a young first year osprey how to hunt for fish along the Potomac River. The adult is identified by her yellow eyes, and a "necklace" of darker feathers (not pictured in this shot, but identified in subsequent pictures). The young osprey is identified by the red/orange eyes. This picture was taken at a high shutter speed while hand-holding the camera from a kayak on the Potomac River.
