On Long Island, head north on Sunken Meadow Parkway until the end.
One of the most amazing sights I had ever seen. This past Spring (April 2019), while taking wildlife pictures with a friend, we were about to leave for the day but decided to stay a bit longer. Suddenly, we watched as one Osprey in the nest was attacked by another. After several attacks by the challenger, the nesting Osprey rose up to fight for control of the nest. While fighting in mid-air, their talons locked and they both tumbled into the water below. Refusing to release, the two Ospreys continued to fight for what seemed like hours (but in reality, was less than 15 minutes) until the challenger, finally too tired to fight and wounded, flew off.
Two Ospreys, locked in a battle for control of the nest.
