We had a driver so I am not sure where this photo was taken. However it is where the Mara river crosses through the Serengeti NP.
I liked this photo because it shows one wildebeest taking a giant leap into the water. These wildebeest have to cross the river while crocodiles and hippos wait to snag the injured or unwary animals. All this effort and risk of life is to get to better feeding grounds.
I was on a photographic safari in Tanzania. One of our objectives was to photographer the crossing of the wildebeest across the Mara river. Our group was very lucky to get to witness this event four times. We waited for an hour or more and watched as the wildebeest gathered in large numbers on the far shore. At some unknown signal, one animal takes the plunge into the river and the rest follow like dominoes. It was indeed a sight to behold and I am glad to have seen this in person.
