The lighting on this image is a result of intentional underexposure in Photoshop with a RAW file, coupled with brightening on the fox. I also used Photoshop to erase several ticks on the fox's face.
A growing fox kit stops for a scratch during an evening of pouncing and wrestling with its siblings. I had the privilege of watching this fox and its three siblings grow up in their den beside a field of cows and their calves. Country foxes can be very skittish, but as long as I stayed lowed and slow, the fox kits ignored me. Not sure if this is a testament to my wildlife photography skills, or if they just took me for a cow...
