Visitation to the Golden Monkeys is restricted for their protection. Access is only available through the Virunga National Park system and is highly limited to number of people to the enter the Golden Monkey's home.
An amazing experience that I had not expected as I had no knowledge of this rare monkey.
This golden monkey was busy eating bamboo and watching his neighboring monkeys. In the Virunga mountains of Rwanda there is a small bamboo forest that is home to the endangered and rare, Golden monkeys. This community has about 80 monkeys. They communicate both visual expression and vocally as the frolic, chase, play, solicit and copulate the run, swing, leap and eat. The photo shoot was difficult due to the massive lighting changes as the sun's rays danced through the bamboo forest.
