A pair of young Barred Owls spent a couple weeks hanging out in our backyard this summer. I believe they fledged from a nest box I built and hung in our woods a few years ago. Every evening they would fly into an ash tree near our garden and hunt for insects for the last hour or two of daylight- they seemed to especially enjoy catching cicada nymphs. It was a lot of fun to watch their behavior, and I caught myself laughing out loud at some of their antics! In this shot one of the owls was stretching its legs and that seemed to fascinate its sibling.
