The male displays a scarlet throat pouch every year during breeding season in order to produce a vibration with their bill and attract females flying around them. They take advantage of small mangrove island to protect themselves and the baby birds and avoid predators until they are ready to take off to some other part of the coastal area. These breeding area are generally extremely noisy, smelly and full of colors as other birds also join them such as brown pelicans, neotropic cormoran and brown booby.
