From San Jose go east 75 miles and catch a river boat for 15 miles to Tortugero Village where you can rent canoes for a day.

In Costa Rica Tortuguero National Park three miles from their village on a side steam, I used binoculars to spot this multi-color Iguana slowly moving in the weeds on the side of the water. I was in a canoe with no tripod and quickly pulled out my Canon with Tamron 70-300 lens and got off one shot before it slithered back into the jungle.
