There is a controversial elf refuge on the outskirts of the city of Jackson. The human feeding of elk attracts over 8,000 animals, placing them at risk for chronic wasting disease. This practice has continued in spite of passed legislation in 2007 to stop. I took this photo on that refuge prior to my learning of what is at stake for these magnificent animals. It is amazing to see so many animals in one area, but not so amazing that I will solicit it ever again. There are so many opportunities to see wapiti just by driving in Bridger-Teton National Forest and Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Let's all do that instead!
This coyote walked through a large herd of wapiti, occasionally stopping to groom himself before carrying on.
