I discovered the crane nest while driving south over Veterans Memorial Bridge in Chesapeake, VA in late March of 2019. I took the above photo from a walkway on top of that bridge.

This is a male Osprey carrying nesting material to a nest it and its mate were building in housing at the top of a construction crane on the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River in Chesapeake, VA. Not long after this picture was taken, the owner of the crane made a decision to remove the nesting material, reposition the top of the crane (and the housing), and wire everything over to prevent any possibility of the birds renesting. As it turns out, the Osprey pair built a new nest and successfully raised one offspring on a channel marker just downriver.
