Approximately 90 miles south of Bozeman, Montana.
The Wapiti wolf pack had taken down a bison with a broken leg and unusually, it was in an open area near a road. The morning I saw this scene, wolves were resting in the snow well beyond the carcass, but occasionally made their way back to the kill. This involved lots of interaction as they wrestled and nipped at each other. I was trying to capture one of those moments when they were showing their formidable teeth, were close enough for a good shot, and were facing towards me and it all came together in this image.
