Description
I found this beautiful sleeping bird approximately 9 feet off the ground on a skinny limb with no other overhanging vegetation nearby. This choice is very strategic, as although it is exposed, there is only one route to the bird for a non-aviation predator along the skinny limb. Weight on this limb would likely awake the bird. Monarchs line cup-shaped nests with fungi, suspected to provide antibacterial benefits to nestlings.
