The coyotes make an eerie sound when then confront another pack of wild coyotes. They are trying to establish their territory and keep outsiders out through intimidation.
Four coyotes issuing a challenge to 5 coyotes on the other bank of the inlet to Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Every time one of the coyotes approached the water the east side pack would howl until they would retreat and regroup. This went on for at least 40 minutes until the west side pack wandered off back into the bush.
